Chara/Muskgrass

Chara/Muskgrass

What Chara Looks Like:

Chara1

Chara in Pond

Chara2
Chara is often called muskgrass or skunkweed because of its foul, musty almost garlic-like odor. Chara is a gray-green branched algae that is often confused with submerged rooted plants. Chara has no flower, will not extend above the water surface, and often has a "grainy" or "crunchy" texture due to calcium deposits on its surface. Chara has cylindrical, whorled branches with 6 to 16 branchlets around each node.

How to Treat Chara:

Algae Defense Algaecide-
Use Algae Defense where chara is in water less than 4 feet deep.

Mix the Following into a Tank Sprayer:
This solution treats 2,000 square feet
- 1 Quart Algae Defense
- 1 to 2 gallons of water

Note: If you have Koi or Trout Use Hydrothol 191 instead of Algae Defense.

Hydrothol 191:
Algae: Use 2 lbs. for every 1,000 square feet with an average depth of 4'.
Weed & Algae: Use 4- 6 lbs. for every 1,000 square feet with an average depth of 4'

Use The Airmax® Eco-System's 4-Step Process to keep your pond healthy all season.
