It's spring cleanout time again! Time to wake your pond up from it's winter slumber. Cleanouts start in the middle of March, while the water temperature is still around 55 degrees. Cleaning your pond at this time is the best because the fish are dormant and the pond bacteria is inactive. If we cleaned the pond when it gets warmer outside, we would kill most of the beneficial bacteria in your pond. Thus slowing down the biological process. We now power wash all of our ponds. This does a much better job at removing algae than a garden hose, giving you the cleanest pond possible.
What we do on our Spring/Fall cleanouts:
- Drain your pond and carefully remove your fish.
- Provide a holding tub for your fish with aeration.
- Power Wash Rocks, Pond, and Stream(s).
- Replace rocks or gravel that have moved out of place.
- Remove leaves and debris from the pond and components.
- Remove and replace skimmer and filter pads, and clean them.
- Refill pond, add chlorine killer so tap water does not hurt your fish.
- Turn on the pond and check to see if everything is working fine.
Have us do the hard work. As you can see this is a lot of work and it's very messy. If you were to do this yourself, it would cost you a lot of money to buy the pump to drain your pond, plumbing, a holding tub for the fish, and to rent a power washer. Not to mention your time, which is valuable.
