Q: Are these products you use safe?
A: There is a wide margin of safety with respect to people, pets and fish when used according to the label. Fish are generally at greatest risk from oxygen depletion resulting from decaying dead vegetation.
Q: Do my fish need plants to create oxygen?
A: NO. Weeds do produce oxygen, but not nearly the amount of oxygen that is obtained from the atmosphere. Heavy surface mats of vegetation may even reduce the oxygen available to fish by sealing off the surface.
Q: How long will it take to see results after my pond has been treated?
A: The time it takes to see results depends on the target species. In general, algae will die much quicker than aquatic plants. Signs of a successful treatment can take up to 3 weeks. If you do not have desired results after 3 weeks please call!
Q: How long does a pond treatment last?
A: The length of control depends on the weed(s) treated and the local conditions. Rain, intense sunlight and runoff all play an important role in the effectiveness of a treatment.
Q: Why is Nature’s Blue dye added?
A: Nature’s BlueÔ dye works as a light barrier to block sunlight needed for plant and algae growth while it improves the appearance of your pond giving it a natural blue color.
Q: What types of chemicals are used?
A: There are two types of chemicals used, systemic and contact. Systemic herbicides are absorbed by the weed(s) killing the entire weed including the root. Contact herbicides kill only the parts of the weed(s) that they come in contact with. Contact herbicides work faster and are used on weeds that have only one life cycle per season.
Q: Is the temperature of the water a concern when applying chemicals?
A: Yes. Temperature is a factor when considering a chemical application. Treatments should be done when the water temperatures a least 55° F to ensure that plants and algae are actively growing. Warmer temperatures also promote activation of aquatic chemicals.
Q: What can I do about my muck on the bottom and dark colored water?
A: Dark water and a mucky bottom can be non-appealing and restrict the use of your waterway for recreation. Pond-Clear, a natural bacteria, and an Airmax aeration system can help solve these problems.
Q: What about emergent plants (cattails, grasses, etc.)?
A: Emergent plants are very difficult to destroy in only one application. It may be necessary to apply several applications. In some cases it may take several seasons for complete control. It is not enough to pull out cattails; you will not remove the entire root system. They will return!
Q: Do-It-Yourself vs. Professional Treatments?
A: In most cases your pond can be professionally treated for less that you can do-it-yourself. Our licensed applicators have a wider variety of chemicals available, resulting in a longer lasting more effective treatment!
