Flow Chart

Shinmaywa Norus Pump Flow Rate Chart

Determine Optimum Pump Size

Pump Sizing:

It is recommended that you circulate your pond at least once per hour (Example: 1,000 gph pond with fish requires at least 1,000 gph pump). It is important to be on the side of caution and give yourself a 25% margin of error. Pumps can be turned down if necessary, but you cannot increase their maximum flow rate. Example with 25% margin of error:

Pond Size = 1,000 gph

Pump volume - 1,000 gph x 1.25 = 1,250 gph

Determine Waterfall Flow

Flow Over A Waterfall

You can also determine what thickness of the water will be going over a waterfall weir. See chart below to estimate your required flow rate.

On average, calculate 2,400 gph per foot width of waterfall to give you a 1 inch depth of water. Although this is not an exact calculation, it will give you a good idea to size your pump flow rate.

Water Fall Thickness

Smooth Weir
Rough Stone Weir
1,200 1/2" 3/8"
1,800 3/4" 9/16"
2,400 1" 5/8"
3,300 1-1/4" 3/4"
4,500 1-1/2" 1"
6,600 2" 1-3/4"

I was very impressed when I received this pump. It appears to be very well made and it is in my pond and working well. The long 32'power cord was a plus.

"Junk"El Banner of Covington, KY

My installer told me to buy one of these to replace a previous pump. I purchased the Shinmaywa and it failed in less than a year. Then the company I bought it from wouldnt cover the warranty due to "all of the problems with the pump company". I paid for a new one and it failed in 2 months. JUNK ****Hi El, I'm sorry to hear of the experience you've had with these pumps, we've not had any issues with our supplier and very little if any problems with the pumps. I'm not sure how long ago you purchased the pump but if you have the pump and receipt we may be able to assist you with a warranty replacement.
