Determine Waterfall Pump Size
Determine Head Pressure (Head):
Step 1: Measure the distance (in feet) of the tubing from the pump to the waterfall and divide by 10.
Step 2: Measure the total number of feet from top of waterfall to water's surface.
Step 3: Add measurements from steps 1 and 2 to equal Head Pressure (FoH).
Example: If a water fall is 3 feet high and has 20 feet of tubing the head pressure would be 5'. (3+(20/10)) = 5' Head Pressure
Desired Water Flow:
The Water Fall Thickness chart below can be used as a good estimate of the required flow rate based on personal preference. The chart is based on gallons per hour for every foot width of waterfall Most people perfer water flowing over the waterfall weir to be about 1 inch thick. This is equal to about 1,500 - 2,000 gallons per hour (GPH/Ft) for every foot of width of waterfall weir.
Step 4: Take the width of the waterfall weir (in feet) and multiply with the
Example: 2.5 Foot-wide discharge with heavy flow: 2.5 x 2,000 = 5,000 GPH at your determined feet of head.
The depth of the water flowing over the weir can be determined in a few steps.
Step 4: Measure the width of your waterfall discharge.
Step 5: Refer to the chart below for the desired water fall thickness. The chart is based on a 1 foot discharge.
Example: If a smooth waterfall weir is 2.5 feet and the desired flow rate is 1" thick (2.5' x 2,400 GPH/FT) the required flow is 6,000 GPH.

My installer told me to buy one of these to replace a previous pump. I purchased the Shinmaywa and it failed in less than a year. Then the company I bought it from wouldnt cover the warranty due to "all of the problems with the pump company". I paid for a new one and it failed in 2 months. JUNK ****Hi El, I'm sorry to hear of the experience you've had with these pumps, we've not had any issues with our supplier and very little if any problems with the pumps.
